Sligo Baroque Orchestra with Niamh Crowley, violin

We have a very special IMA in store this Bank Holiday weekend, with Andreea and Adrian from the RTE Con Tempo Quartet as well as their two daughters performing! Andreea Banciu will be accompanied by Sligo Baroque Orchestra led by violinist Niamh Crowley for a concerto by Zelter, Adrian Mantu will perform one of Bach’s famous cello suites, and their two daughters (on viola and cello) will be accompanied by pianist Aileen Cahill.

For the non-classical part we are happy to welcome back fiddler Steve Wickham and guitarist and singer Ray Coen, who are about to embark on a tour of the UK. Steve Wickham is best known as the fiddler with The Waterboys, but has played with many other Bands and singers over the last 40 years, including U2, Bob Dylan, Sinead O’Connor, Shane McGowan, Glen Hansard, Declan O’Rourke, and the list goes on….
Steve’s Solo album “The Beekeeper” features his original songs and tunes. Ray Coen, a native Sligo man, has a huge repertoire including Rock, Folk, Jazz and Traditional Irish Music. He is a singer and songwriter as well as a very sought after session musician.

Ray and Steve will perform a program of original songs and tunes.

Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.

Ósta@TheModel will be open from 12 noon serving refreshments and a selection of lite bites. The concerts start at 1pm, but we recommend coming at 12:30pm so you can enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine from the wonderful café prior.
