Students at Gaelscoil Chluainín in Co. Leitrim bring Jack B. Yeats’ work to life

Teachers and pupils at Gaelscoil Chluainín, Manorhamilton in County Leitrim have been very busy participating in our outreach schools programme The Toy Theatre this autumn. The Model developed this exciting school programme in collaboration with Branar, Téatar do Pháistí, Ireland’s leading children’s theatre company. With inclusivity at its heart, we commissioned an English and Irish version, which opened up the programme to Gaelscoils. In Gaelscoil Chluainín tremendous excitement was building up in the school weeks before the project was due to start, as children experimented and played around with ideas and maquettes in advance. We are delighted to have such positive response from the teachers Searan and Mairead, who shared with us their students comments. Feedback is mainly in the Irish language, with English translation.

Míle buíochas gach duine sa Model agus Branar

"Thug an tionscadal seo beocht aghus beatha do saothar Jack B Yeats. Spreag sé suim na ndaltaí  i mbealach nárbh fhéidir linne a dhéanamh. Gach lá bhéidís ag cur ceist "an féidir linn na toy theatres a dhéanamh inniu?". Gan na ceardlanna ó Branar ní bheadh an toradh céanna ann. Agus an rud is fearr faoi dúinne sa Ghaelscoil; ná go raibh sé uilig trí mheán na Gaeilge. Míle buíochas gach duine sa Model agus Branar.

Many thanks to everyone in The Model and Branar

The project brought Jack B Yeats’ work to life. It stimulated the students’ interest in a way that we could not. Every day they were asking ‘can we do the toy theatres today?” Without the workshops from Branar the result would not have been the same. And the best thing about it was that it was all through the medium of Irish. Many thanks to everyone in The Model and Branar.
