Welcome to the Model blog. The model::niland building in sligo is closed for a little over a year to facilitate an exciting redevelopment. During the closure the model team will be presenting an exciting offsite programme and also spending a lot of time on research and development for all of our programmes in visual art, film, music and education initiatives.
Without the visibility of a public building where you can drop in and stay up to date on our programmes and our building progress we wanted to make the model site an active online address where you can drop in and do just that. We have a number of exhibitions, commissionsand programmes that will run and evolve over the course of the year, including tours of the prestigious Niland Collection and an online sound art project entitled Relay, and we’ll update the website as we go.
The model blog will give us an opportunity to keep in touch in a more informal way, updating as we go on news, building developments and some of the research and travel that the team will be doing. Not all of the work over the course of the year will be publicised or made public in any other forum than the blog but we promise not to let this descend into a pr exercise!
You’ll hear a lot from me Aoife Flynn, as I’m the development manager for the Model, but also from our Education team Marie Louise Blaney and Linda Hayden, Assistant Curator Emer McGarry, Redevelopment project manager Caroline Clancy and who ever else we can strong arm along the way.
