Mabel Chah to Launch EP in The Model

Singer/songwriter Mabel Chah will launch her debut EP at The Model on Friday 30th August at 8pm. The Cameroonian singer, who released her single ‘Zero to Hero,’ in early June, has been cultivating quite a buzz. After a knock-out performance at this year’s Parkfest, Chah has established herself as a show-stopping performer.

Chah’s singles have also received considerable radio play and have become favourites among DJ’s across Sligo. A life-long gospel singer, locals will recognize Chah as a member of the Sligo Gospel Choir. Internationally, Chah is best known as one-third of the hip-hop band BAAM. The group rose to prominence after winning a music competition called the Nescafe African Revelation. BAAM then went on to record an album in Paris, shoot a video and tour Africa extensively.

Chah continued to work on her music after she arrived in Ireland in 2013. Her EP is the culmination of years of work and was recorded right here in Sligo, in Electric Eye Studio. To celebrate the release of the EP, Chah teamed up Sligo musician Owen Kilfeather, who has put together a band for the occasion. ‘I can promise a night not to be forgotten,’ teased Chah, ‘we will be playing a mix of soul, pop and rock. No one will be sitting down when the music is playing. They will want to dance.’

Chah, accompanied by Kilfeather’s band, will perform six original songs. ‘It is my first set in this country that is entirely mine,’ said Chah, ‘I am very excited to show as many facets of my music as I can on the night. The audience won’t be in a rush to forget the night.’ Doors open at 7.30pm, admission is free and it is advised to arrive early to claim your seat. Chah’s EP will also be on sale at the launch so audience members have the option to take the party home with them!
