Tucked

Tucked Film Still

Director: Jamie Patterson
Cast: Derren Nesbitt, Jordan Stephens, April Pearson
81 minutes, UK, 2018, 16

Unlikely friends, Tucked in. Hanging Out.

Jackie, an 80-year-old Drag Queen, headlines at a rundown club in Brighton. Having just been told that he has cancer and not long left to live, it seems like Jackie will have to face his mortality and his final days alone. When Faith, a new act starts at the club, Jackie discovers that Faith is homeless. Jackie takes Faith, who is non-binary, fun-loving and full of flare, under his wing and into his home. Faith encourages Jackie to open up and enjoy life, even if there isn’t that much of it left!

Tucked is a feel good drama full of charm and humour, about gender identity, unlikely friendships and fullfilling your bucket list.

“★★★★ Prolific indie filmmaker Jamie Patterson (Caught, Home for Christmas) works in delicate motions to ensure Tucked, which won the audience award and jury prize for best international film at Outfest, is never mawkish or melodramatic.’’
– Tara Brady, The Irish Times

‘Nesbitt beautifully unpicks the complexity of this man (Jackie): the quiver of heartbreak, his regret at hurting the people he loved alongside his dignity at doing what he loves, sticking up two fingers to the haters.’’
– Cath Clarke, The Guardian

‘’ The heart of the film is in the odd parent-child relationship that develops between Jackie and Faith. ’’
– Stephen Faber, The Hollywood Reporter
