Sukie Zines, founded by Kim Kennedy and Aliza Levinson, is an educational project which strives to create and make space for marginalised folks, and organise fun, queer, and inclusive community events.

About Sukie Zines

Founded by Kim Kennedy and Aliza Levinson, Sukie Zines is a zine library and collective dedicated to archiving zines and making them available to read, which has been in operation in Sligo since 2018. By sharing our zine collection, we hope to expose people to new ideas, bring the community together through socially engaged arts and shared experience, and highlight the medium of zine-making.

Zines are self-published, noncommercial magazines containing original and appropriated text or images and are typically devoted to specialised or unconventional topics. These works are small-circulation and can be reproduced with a copy machine and stapler.

Our catalogue of more than 300 zines covers a variety of themes including gender, sexual orientation, race, colonialism, disability, mental health, sex and consent, feminism, arts, and culture.

Sukie Zines is also an educational project that strives to promote and create space for underrepresented groups and ideas. We organise fun, LGBTQI+ friendly, and inclusive community events in Sligo and around rural North West Ireland. Our events are designed to deepen public engagement in the arts and showcase local artists by offering opportunities to share their work with the public through workshop facilitation and performances.

Key projects have included:

First edition of Spilt Milk in The Nest in 2018

First open library day in Pulled studios in 2022

Installation at the first Leitrim Pride 2022

ARTY PARTY by Binder collective in The Model in 2022
