The December IMA includes Mozart's beautiful Piano Trio in C-major KV 548, played by SBO members Laurie Phippard and Anna Houston, with Edi Henning on piano. Sligo Baroque Orchestra have an offering of two lesser known English composers, Charles Avison and William Boyce, playing a full concerto of each.

SBO are very lucky to have among them their newest member, the fantastic double bass player Brian Questa, who studied in New York. Brian is very active in the Sligo music scene, playing Jazz and any other genre that comes his way. Next Sunday he will accompany Stephen O'Dowd, an up and coming young singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist on the Sligo music scene. Stephen's father Seamie O'Dowd is a regular performer in IMAs, so it is our pleasure to welcome the next generation to join us!

Another Sligo man, and newcomer to Informal Music Afternoons, is guitarist and bassist Leo Mullaney. He has just graduated from University of Galway with a BA in Music with Gaeilge, and he is going to play some solo guitar pieces.

Come along, have a cup of tea or coffee and some delicious food, to enjoy quality music in a relaxed atmosphere, the ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The concerts starts at 1pm, but we recommend coming at 12.30pm.

About the IMA

Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.
