When her rabbi father dies, Ronit (Rachel Weisz), a photographer living in New York, returns to the London-based Orthodox Jewish community she left many years previously. She reconnects with her childhood friends Esti (Rachel McAdams) and Dovid (Alessandro Nivola), who are now a married couple. But Ronit’s reappearance also reignites a long-dormant passion, with devastating consequences…

Following his acclaimed Gloria and Oscar-winning A Fantastic Woman, prolific Chilean director Sebastián Lelio makes his English language debut with this delicate and moving love story. Stand-out performances from the three lead actors, bring to life richly drawn characters caught in circumstances where difficult choices between love, duty and faith must be made. An absorbing and rewarding watch.

★★★★ ”Brilliantly directed by the Chilean-Argentine Sebastián Lelio, Disobedience is very different from typical British realist drama. Lelio gives even the most humdrum scenes shot in drab, grey north-London houses and streets an unlikely lyricism.” – The Independent

“Beautifully acted by Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola as the three points of a melancholy romantic triangle, this is a deeply felt drama that exerts a powerful grip.” – The Hollywood Reporter
