This exciting evening transforms The Model into a vibrant celebration of music, dance, food, visual art, and performance. Join us for an inclusive, welcoming night, from early evening to late, that embodies the spirit of Culture Night and celebrates community as our greatest superpower. Take part in art workshops, dance to global beats, sample delicious food by Sligo Global Kitchen, and discover fresh new Irish talent at the 2FM Artists Rising late night programme.

All events at Culture Night at The Model are free of charge but some have limited availability and must be booked in advance.

4 – 6.30pm: Art Workshops – Interactive Engagement for All Ages

Our early evening programme focuses on accessible, hands-on artistic workshops designed to introduce participants to traditional art forms and encourage cross-cultural learning. Materials will be provided for all workshops, ensuring a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced artists alike.

Mokuhanga Japanese Printmaking with artist Kate MacDonagh

This workshop introduces the traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique known as Mokuhanga, which is characterised by the use of water-based pigments, hand printing without a press, and an eco-friendly, handmade process. Find out more...

Juicy Chewy Crunchy: A Glass Mini-Sculpture Workshop with artist Karen Donnellan

Reinterpret everyday materials as we explore low-tech ways to manipulate glass – through cutting, gluing, smashing, engraving, and combining with mixed media. An intercultural bridge between communities, celebrating identity, and deepening understanding among Sligo’s diverse audiences - bringing together asylum seekers, refugees,new and established communities to celebrate the diversity of our cultures. This unique offering will facilitate meaningful connection through:

Sligo Global Kitchen

Based on the principles of hospitality, integration and cultural dialogue, the communal table at the heart of SGK will act as an intercultural bridge, bringing together communities through a delicious menu of food from Phillipines, Korea, Venezuela, Ukraine, Syria and Palestine, all living in Sligo.

Sligo Integration Chorus

Led by singer/songwriter Mabel Chah (b. Cameroon), will showcase their repertoire, blending traditional African melodies and rhythms with more contemporary and gospel styles, drawing on vocal traditions from across the West, Central, and East Africa.

Congolese Dance Group

Led and formed by community leader Emilie Mpoy (b. Congo). The group of Afro-Irish born young people will performed traditional Congolese dance-styles, showcasing a powerful representation of Congolese heritage, helping to bridge communities through rhythm, movement, and shared celebration.

6.30 – 8.30pm: Open Studios

Artists will be in attendance at The Model's Artist studios to greet visitors and talk them through their artistic process.

Visit us late on Culture Night to see our current exhibitions Extra Alphabets, by renowned artist Mairead O'hEocha, The Dreaming Road with works from Jack B. Yeats, landscapes from the Niland Collection in Atlantic Light and experimental films in Flight from Reason; curated by aemi – before closing on Saturday 20 September. Only on Culture Night, the Gallery will be open to visitors until 8pm. There is no need to book a place.

9 – 11pm: Culture Night Late x 2FM Rising

This Culture Night, RTÉ 2FM is hitting the road and broadcasting live from The Model in Sligo to celebrate the best in new Irish music. As part of our 2FM Rising initiative, we’re bringing the next wave of breakthrough Irish talent directly to the stage and the airwaves.

Expect powerful live performances, exclusive interviews, and the electric energy of a one-of-a-kind night rooted in Irish culture and creativity. Join us live at the Model Sligo; as well as on-air and online, as we turn up the volume on the voices shaping the sound of tomorrow from one of Ireland’s most vibrant cultural hubs.
