Concerts this season include performances by the internationally renowned duo Clara-Jumi Kang (violin) and Sunwook Kim (piano) and The Marmen Quartet all of whom are new to Con Brio. We welcome back to Sligo The Far Flung Trio, Michael McHale (piano), The Degani Trio, The Callino Quartet and The Irish Chamber Orchestra.

The diverse programme includes music by Irish composers Ian Wilson and a new commission by John Buckley. We will hear music from South America as well as a selection of much-loved works by European composers.

The Degani Piano Trio return to Sligo to celebrate the Tango inspired works of the extraordinary Argentinian composer, Astor Piazzolla. The trio is joined by the celebrated actress Donna Anita Nikolaisen narrating the deeply moving and revered writings of Gabriela Mistral who was a Chilean Nobel Laureate of literature.

Belfast-born Michael McHale has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading pianists and has developed a busy international career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. Michael’s interaction with Con Brio has lasted many years and this concert will be a celebration of his 40th birthday.

“This programme combines beloved works by some of the Romantic era’s greatest pianist-composers with stories of romance and heartbreak, from Romeo and Juliet to the Greek myth of Hero and Leander, from love song arrangements by Clara and Robert Schumann to more contemporary takes on love and loss.”

Con Brio is delighted to host the Callinos once again. They are one of our favourite quartets and we have dealt with them since their formation in 1999. They cultivate a challenging and eclectic repertoire. They also excel at interpreting Haydn.
