Inspired by Jack Butler Yeats; The Living Ginger
Tue. 5 May 2026, 11am – 12.30pm
Admission Free, booking required
To celebrate Bealtaine, we are offering Free Admission throughout May.
Join us for a relaxed and welcoming morning at the gallery exploring the exhibition The Living Ginger. This special event for Bealtaine begins with a guided tour through the exhibition, introducing the work of artist Jack B. Yeats.
During the tour we will look closely at Yeats’ lively characters — performers, sailors and solitary figures — and explore how memory, imagination and everyday life shaped his art. Yeats believed that great paintings contained a vital spark he called “the living ginger”: an energy that brings a scene to life and captures something deeply human.
Following the tour, there will be a gentle watercolour workshop, inspired by Yeats’ early paintings. Working with simple materials, we will experiment with colour, gesture and atmosphere to create our own expressive pieces of art. No previous art experience is needed — the session is about looking, enjoying the process and responding creatively to the exhibition. This event is a chance to connect with art, share ideas and enjoy making something of your own.
All materials will be provided.
