The Model has a vibrant music programme which includes an eclectic mix of contemporary and classical music. The Model develops music projects that respond to the exhibition programme, while also producing The Sligo New Music Festival and supporting The Sligo Festival of Baroque Music. As a music programmer The Model aims to create a distinct identity as an artistic venue that directly supports practitioners and encourages experimentation. The music programme seeks to engage with musicians as artists in new ways and to develop new work where possible. Key projects have included the Donal Dineen curated Month of Sundays, and the John Lambert curated Relay.

The Model Music Residency is a month long residency in our Artist-in-Residence studio in Sligo. The music artist in residence can be a musician, composer or sound artist of any discipline. The residency offers a furnished apartment on site for the exclusive use of the resident (with 24hour private access), and access to a music rehearsal studio. Chequerboard was appointed as the first Model Music Fellow in 2007 and our second resident was Deaf Joe in December 2010.

A number of instruments are available for the resident's use, including drums, an electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and, subject to availability, a grand piano. A PA, vocal mics and a basic recording device (intended for recording rehearsals/practice and not finished works). The resident will have access to any Model events taking place at the time of the residency, and may arrange to perform publically during the residency and/or at a later date should that benefit the resident's overall practice.
