Informal Music Afternoon in May

Sligo Baroque Orchestra
Laura Ampersand – Singer / songwriter piano and vocals

Sligo Baroque Orchestra will perform works from the late Baroque/early classical period by composers Ditters von Dittersdorf, Johann Stamitz and C.P.E. Bach. Three symphonies composed within twenty years by three very highly regarded composers, each looking for, finding a new direction for orchestral music. Influential on the development of classical music, imaginative, innovative and although none of them a well-known composer today, their music sparkles and delights over two hundred and fifty years after their composition. SBO will performe Ditters von Dittersdorf's Symphony no. X in C major.

We are delighted to introduce a new act to our loyal audience, piano playing singer-songwriter and Sligo resident Laura Ampersand.

Laura Ampersand is the moniker of Laura Ryder; a piano-wielding songwriter and composer from Co. Mayo. For fans of Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, Ben Folds and Joanna Newsom, Laura writes piano-based baroque pop songs, which range from classical-influenced lyrical pieces to energetic full-band arrangements. She has supported the likes of BC Camplight, Síomha and Last Apollo, and played festivals such as Other Voices, Body and Soul, Electric Picnic, and Knockanstockan. Laura Ampersand's first single, 24, was released in late 2025. Her next single Remember will be out on 22nd May.

Come along, have a cup of tea or coffee and some delicious food, to enjoy quality music in a relaxed atmosphere, the ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The concerts starts at 1pm, but we recommend coming at 12.30pm.

About the IMA

Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.
