Come and enjoy March IMA in the Model next Sunday at 1 pm where you will hear as normal an eclectic mix of music of different genres: the remarkable young pianist Lenny Chen, who has been recently selected to participate in the Young Pianists Programme of the Dublin International Piano Competition. Lenny will perform Chopin and with an enlarged SBO, the first movement of Beethoven piano concerto no 1 in C major;

Ted Kelly, Julia Spanu, Darren Roche and Jos Kelly will present a special performance exploring traditional Irish tunes alongside songs in several languages. The four musicians who also perform in Irish band Moxie, will bring together voice, banjo and accordion in a lively and expressive musical conversation;

Sligo Baroque Brchestra, leader Austin McManus, will also perform an early symphony by Haydn, his 9th, a short three movement piece, the outer movements lively and light; the central Andante being a gentle lyrical flute solo.

This IMA will unusually take place in the theatre in the Model, not in the Atrium, but the café will be in operation as normal.

About the IMA

Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.

Come along, have a cup of tea or coffee and some delicious food, to enjoy quality music in a relaxed atmosphere, the ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The concerts starts at 1pm, but we recommend coming at 12.30pm.
