Informal Music Afternoons are a series of monthly events, presented in partnership with Sligo Baroque Orchestra, where an eclectic mix of music is performed in a welcoming format in The Model’s Atrium space. The Informal Music Afternoon is an ideal way to spend a calm Sunday afternoon. The idea behind this event is to make classical music accessible for all, by means of an informal concert with a relaxed atmosphere in a cafe-style setting. Musicians perform classical works in addition to a non-classical section – often folk, traditional or jazz.

The September programme includes Sligo Baroque Orchestra performing works by Heinichen and Stradella. And SBO will bejoined by soprano Orla Shannon (soprano) who will sing arias by Pasquali, Handel and Strozzi.

And making their IMA debut will be singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Niamh Keane with piano accompaniment by Ailbhe Kehoe.

Sligo Baroque Orchestra will collaborate with Jenny Hallahan and her quartet on a selection of her own compositions as well as Baroque pieces, combining Jazz and Baroque music.

There will be a world premiere of “Echoes from the Lakeshore” by Emma Purcell, a piece commissioned by Sligo Baroque Orchestra.

The July IMA will feature selections of songs by Irish and American composers – Ina Boyle, Joan Trimble, Fiona Linnane, Mary Turner Salter and Augusta Read Thomas performed by Orla Shannon and Aileen Cahill.

Sligo Baroque Orchestra will perform Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio Op.17 Andante – Allegretto.

And Galway-based composer Lōwli (Roisin Lowry) will play selections of her own work – an enchanting blend of elegant piano arrangements, haunting vocals and delicate instrumentation.

The June IMA will feature Felip Carbonell playing a selection of his own songs and will give a very special performance of his composition Lebanissimo, written in 2020 in response to the devastating humanitarian disaster which took place in Beirut that year. Aileen Cahill (piano), Laurie Phippard (violin), and Anna Houston (cello) will perform Clara Schumann’s Piano Trio Op.17 Andante – Allegretto.

The April IMA includes a performance of Haydn's Horn concerto with young New Zealand hornist Maia O'Connell as soloist with the Sligo Baroque Orchestra; and a newly formed wind trio performing for the first time: The Tandem Trio perform music by Paul Pierné and Žilvinas Smalys;

Aileen Cahill will perform solo piano music by Janacek and Josepha Auernhammer's variations on a theme my Mozart. And there will be a performance of Sligo composer, Emma Purcell's piece This too Shall Pass - music that came out of the composer's experience of cancer.

And a newly formed trio, The Conor Bastible Jazz Trio is a new project comprising of Conor Bastible (Piano), Brian Questa (Bass) and Cal Halpin (Drums).
