One more week to see ‘become’ by local artist Frank Conway

become, a film portrait by Frank Conway of influential Sligo sculptor Fred Conlon, filmed six weeks before he died from a brain tumour in 2005, closes at The Model on Saturday, April 2nd.

become has drawn local and national visitors to this showcase of Sligo artist Frank Conway’s work. Informed by the life and work of another of Sligo’s finest artists and investigating themes of impermanence and perception, become is an expression of the profound effect of the physical and emotional trauma experienced by Conlon’s encounter with fatal illness.

In front of four projected screens, the spectator stands between the image of the artist and the arc of his experience; the body under the gaze of the surgeon; the work of art under the scrutiny of the artist; the man and what he confronts as he approaches death.

Frank Conway is a former head of Design at the Abbey Theatre and an award winning scenographer, artist and lecturer working in film and theatre in Ireland and abroad.

Don’t miss this last opportunity to see this very important show at The Model.
